5 Tips to Survive The Holiday Season
“Practice Mindful Eating” – Studies have shown that with more stress, there’s also an increase in cravings for high fat filled foods. The healthier option? Mindful Eating. That doesn’t mean not enjoying grandma’s famous sweets, but be aware if your mindlessly eating just because its cold out or because of boredom.
“Prioritize Sleep” – Sleep is often the first thing to go during a busy holiday season, and the holiday parties (alcohol included) often interfere with the ability to get good rest. The more sleep you get the more effective you are.
“Stay Active” – Exercise is a excellent way to destress and practice holiday wellness, listen to your body and find alternative ways of movement that feels good and help you deal with stress.
“Anticipate Family Drama” - As much as we love them sometimes family visits can be taxing, whether you have outright conflicts or simply the growing pains of coming back to your childhood as an adult, when we go home for the holidays and spend an extended time back with out family we tend to easily slip back into old roles and habit. That role could be the peacemaker in the family, or it could be the sensitive one that gets their feelings hurt, or even the one who debates and disagrees. The best thing you can do is to be aware that this can trigger stress or conflict and have a plan for when it does. That could mean going outside and taking a walk, or even meditating. Whatever works best to keep your energy centered.
“Make Healthier New Years Resolutions” – This philosophy will save you a ton of stress when it comes to making New Year’s Resolutions. It’s so easy to make your New Years Resolution based off social media and set goals that are unrealistic. When you make a resolution for the year, remember you are not competing with anyone else, you are competing with yourself to become the best version of you. Keep going and finish the year strong you got this.
